Gardening, Grapes, and Winemaking

In the early days it was a difficult task to develop gardens. Wine-making is a long tradition in Trail and the Kootenays. A traditional wine press. After the grapes are placed in the press, pressure forces the juice out of the grapes. Further pressure is brought to bear in order to extract every ounce of juice. Grape-vines can be seen growing all over the Kootenays.

Traditional supplies and imported Californian grapes can still be purchased locally.

Wine-making competitions have produced many local champions.

Wine-making is now a commercial viability in the Kootenays.
